174 days to go. :)
A post about nothing …
I have been HARRASSED to update my blog. Emailed, called and private messaged all to inform you about what’s been going on my life these days.
It’s nice to feel wanted.
It’s not that I don’t want to tell you every little detail, It’s just that sometimes and more often than not lately my brain feels like a snow storm when I sit in front of my computer screen. There I am ready to type, blankly staring at the screen annnddd Nothing. I take a sip of my coffee and then my brain becomes warm and fuzzy and I go back to the screen…and I think …
Have I mentioned how much I love Starbucks? I mean really how can you not? They have a million different types and combinations of coffee flavoured drinks, which on its own; ammmazing.
But it’s the mellowness too. They have this jazzy music playing which in normal circumstances would put me to sleep, but that’s why they have all the coffee.
There are always people in there with their laptops or their books. People like me probably updating a blog with random nothingness. Or reading an amazing book which makes you feel all important and intelligent. (those non readers never understand)
It’s great for people watching too, yep. All kinds of odd and pretentious and unique people walk in, and when they order drinks that are just ridiculously long and irritating it makes my day…
Right, so flowers, corsages, bouquets … nothing interesting there. I know this blog is supposed to be about my wedding planning, little did I know how lazy I would be about the whole thing, I really just want to lie down and take a nap.
I still don’t have a church, I visited 2 others, but haven’t officially booked arguably the most important part of the whole shin-dig. I will, it just hurts to pay 900 dollars for it, but I do love it.
Have you ever watched “Say yes to the dress?” I cannot get over how much money some of these brides pay for their dresses. I mean 15,000.00!!! I’m all for splurging on yourself for such an important day but that’s just borderline crazy. I hope there is gold sown into that dress somewhere! Anyway …
I think Peter has done more than me lately. He found and booked a violinist to play. Random I know, but he heard him at a wedding he was shooting, and fell in love a little bit. All I heard after was about this amazing “Grenville Pinto”. We definitely could not afford him as every penny for the next six months is pretty much counted, so Peters mom offered to cover it for us! Yay.
He’s actually really cool. He plays all kinds of modern songs and artists like Lady Gaga and Britney. Maybe ill have him play Circus as we walk into the reception
“ I’m like the ring leader, I call the shots!” Ha ha kidding!
What the hell is going on with Britney anyway, She’s had like 3 albums in the last 2 years no? None of really amazing quality… It always seems like she’s out of shape, then back in shape, then out of shape again. Is she still crazy or normal Britney now?
Umm so I have ordered more samples from different places for invitations. I am looking for cute and cheap, just like most men. bazinga! Big Bang Theory anyone?
Peter was originally going to design the invitations and we would have them printed, however (just like I predicted) Peter got lazy about the whole thing too. So now we are really in trouble …
We discussed the favours as he was really set on having playing cards with a very cool picture of us on the back. But we decided that no one would really use or care about the cards, and it would probably be really expensive. SO we are probably going to go for something much simpler and more traditional. You guys like Jordan almonds yes?
So did you know that my favourite solo artist ever, Christina Aguilera got married on November 19th? Yep. Did you know that she has a new album out that is going to be fantastic? I actually have some of the songs already, ahem. I LOVE it, now I know that I’m biased but I really do think that it’s her best work. I’m probably going to drive Peter nuts, but I figure its only fair since he has basically tortured me with non-stop Angels & Airwaves for 3 years now.
They did put on a good concert though …
So, what was I saying? Sometimes my brain is like a pinball machine you know? Anyway, I have nothing to say about anything really, thus my lack of posts…
One Ring to Rule …
I have gotten a tonne wedding things done in the last few days/week!! Im so proud!
- We have a DJ – His name is Rey. He’s awesome, and super nice.
- We have decided to use a different MC. Talented Magician and great friend Bobby Motta. He’s so funny and an excellent performer, we also wanted someone we loved to be the MC, so it’s perfect!
- We have an official Photographer ( as previously noted) the very talented Navy Nhum (www.navynhum.com)
- We have found and purchased our wedding bands! We went in, picked them and bought them in about 20 minutes.
- Bridesmaids dresses :)
I think I have been incredibly productive. May is a great month!!
P.S. – Yes that was a LOTR reference, I even abbreviated the title for ya there, ya.
Foil, Epee, and Sabre
Do you know what I’m talking about? That’s right. I have found a new activity that I am absolutely IN LOVE with. Its fun, and challenging and I feel like I just worked out for 5 hours when I’m done.
Fencing.
Me and my friend Louise, randomly discovered that we both had a secret desire to become dueling masters, (because all the cool people do) so we decided to check out a class. Friend/photgrapher Navy Nhum came along (supposedly to document our fencing, but i think she just wanted some blackmail material). She ended up joining in as well, and I think we all had a tonne of fun.
I knew we were in for a workout when the instructor had us doing jumping jacks within 5 minutes of meeting him. We learned about the different types of weapons and what they are used for, he taught us different positions, and blocking devices. It was very challenging, and I’m sure we all worked muscles we haven’t used in years. But I absolutely loved it.
P.S. – These photos were taken by my wedding photographer to be, the very talented. Navy Nhum.
OMG Purple!!
We have bridesmaid’s dresses everyone!
It was actually a pretty painless process…Almost.
The girls and I met at a local mall, and we went to a few different locations that Donna and I had previously scouted out. Now, I am completely a girly girl and I like to shop. But I have never been more annoyed with the human population as I was that day. Why do people stroll in large groups that take up the entire aisle? The highlight of the craziness was when a woman tried to cram a stroller into a completely packed elevator and then slowly retreated when she realized she had crushed about 6 people against the wall.
Anyway, Back to the dresses. The girls tried on 4 different dresses before we found the one.
The first store had a nice dress but I knew when the girls responded with “ yea..its nice” that we had to move on.
Second store we couldn’t even find one dress to try on, it was full of cheesy, super glittery, 80’s prom dresses. Definitely not right.
The third store was a real joy; we had a lady follow us around the entire time while being completely unhelpful. That’s a talent. The girls all tried on the dresses, and poor Jess being the tallest her dress was to her shin. We asked the lady if they had a longer version and her response was “no, but it fits the other girls perfectly. You can wear flats”. Next store.
We went into the last store and I showed the girls the dress Donna had previously modeled. My sister thought it was a joke. The other girls responded with a “ umm, really that one”. But being amazing like they are they tried it on for me anyway. And they all loved it once it was on! Bonus it was on sale for $65 dollars less!! Sold!
I know I promised lots of pictures, but being forgetful as I am I forgot my camera at home, (you are lucky girls!!) I did however make my sister put it on again because I couldn’t not show you the final product. (Edited by the groomie of course).
AVA revisited
Word
Hmm. That doesn’t sound like something janice would say now does it? But I’m making good use of the bold key!
I’m kidding. Allow me to introduce myself – The groom. Otherwise known as p:m. I run a blog over at himynameispeter.com OR petermckinnon.com > check it.
Upon waking to a beautiful summer day, 18 degrees and sunny skies, I stumbled upon a few things in J’s most recent post that i felt needed correcting.
1) Dont blame canon. Dont ever blame canon. Even if canon is to be blamed, still, don’t blame canon. Just blame Nikon :)
2) As the caption underneath the photo of us states “Our first AVA concert” – That is false. a) it’s a show, not a concert & b) it was Janice’s first ,not mine and c) I feel that gives off the impression that the photo displayed is from last night when it very much is not. What was it 2 years ago? And we are sober in that picture- last night however….. lol :)
This is last night. With Willy. He is my cousin – but more like a brother. I was trying to lose my voice last night & feel like I did a pretty decent job :) On top of that I decided to crowd surf during “the war” – one of the best songs ever. I took off my shoes as I was closer to the front, pushed through absolutely everyone, shoes in hand and the result was this:
hells yeah. It was awesome. Wait no, it was epic. See the shoes? I was throw over the gate twice. Stood at the foot of the stage looking at tom mesmerized until otherwise thrown out of the way by security.
it was a fantastic night. And Janice cannot drink vodka+redbull fast at all. I win. 22 seconds.

AVA
I went to see Angels and Airwaves in concert yesterday. (This was taken with the worst point and shoot known to man, so Im sorry if it hurts your eyes. Blame Canon)
Obviously I was expecting the worst, seeing as I am not a big fan and Tom Delonge is pretty heinous live normally. I was actually quite surprised at how much fun it actually was.
Seems that Tom has hired the man who does U2′s lighting, (something else taken from Bono, hmm). But it was awesome, the different coloured lights with the rhythms of the music, the fog etc was really cool to look at. They also played pretty much straight through for over an hour. If you know me then you know that one of my pet peeves is when a performer takes breaks after every 2 songs, I know its tiring, but stop being such a wuss. (too much?).
Lastly but most importantly, they actually performed the music well, Tom sounded decent for most parts, and I still think the drummer is the best part of the whole band but then there’s just something about drummers isn’t there?
All in all I give Angels and Airwaves an A- for vast improvement and solid performance
The Lakehouse
So this past weekend Peter and I drove up to Niagara on the Lake to visit a childhood friend of his. When I say drove I mean Peter and I sat in traffic for about 3 hours. Me bored and restless + Peter grumpy = fun times!
Anyway, Peters friend Mike owns a B&B in the area and he offered us a place to stay so that Peter could come up and take some pictures of him and his new fiancé.
I had never been up there and was really quite surprised at the tranquility and quietness up there. Its like you have suddenly entered a place where time has slowed down.
It was really lovely (I know I’m not 80, but there’s just no other word that fits it better). It’s full of great natural beauty, quaint little shops and restaurants. Peter and I even got to do a wine tasting which was fun (anyone out there like ice wine? because I felt like I was drinking melted sugar, but maybe that’s just me). I would definitely recommend going up there if you are looking to get away for a couple of days.
Peter thought it was boring. Men. Here are some pics from our little getaway :)
see, lovely…
Sorry I don’t have a better shot of this, there were rows and rows of cherry blossom trees. It was really pretty.
Blue Cheese is gross.
He’s listening to people talk about the differences in various wines. He’s thinking about wings probably.
P.S. – I think my pictures are getting better yes?
P.P.S – Saturday I’m going shopping with my girls for their bridesmaids dresses! Lots of pics to come!
VEGAS is LOVE
So I realized that I never updated you on our trip to Vegas! It was sooo much fun, like usual. Peter and I went with my sister and her boyfriend as well as a couple of friends. None of them had ever been there before, so it was fun showing them all the cool sites.
It felt much shorter this time around! And I was really sad to leave. Vegas is amazing, so much to see, so much to do I just never get tired of it.
We had buffett breakfast every single day, lots of good tacos at The Pink Taco at Hardrock. We walked … a lot. Went swimming, drank tequila, and awful awful girlie drinks in gigantic cups. We got approached a million times with hooker cards, and got to see a show. We went to the gun store, and some got amazing tattoos! Overall it was a super fun time.
Anyway, I only took a few pictures, but here they are

All mine ladies :)

My little sister. So proud.

Enjoying some very disgusting, and very overpriced drinks

Bellagio foyer
These pictures really don’t capture Vegas well at all. I went picture crazy the first time I went so maybe I’ll post some of those up later.
I am proud of one thing from the trip. I went to see KA again and I did not fall asleep! nope, made it through the whole thing!.. Nathan and Danielle on the other hand.. tsk tsk.
