The Formula

This is the day to day of a chocolate loving, make-up addicted, workaholic, Starbucks obsessed bride.

My name is Janice, and I have 1 year to plan my wedding, this blog is the place for all my questions, my joy, my failures and maybe even some meltdowns...

El velo

Sooo My mother has given me her veil to wear on my wedding day. Let me give you a little history on this veil.

This veil was handmade by my great grandmother, whom I am named after. My great aunt handmade the tiny little embroidered flowers that my great grandmother sewed on all over the veil.

My mother wore this on the day she married my dad, and then her younger sister wore it on the day she married my uncle.

Is that not the most beautiful thing ever?!!! I was so excited when we had it shipped from El Salvador.

There’s just one thing of course …  its too long.

It was designed for a dress that has no train, and is supposed to serve as one thus is super long.

My dress already has a small train, and it would be a shame to cover the back as it’s very pretty.

I spoke with my sister about cutting it, there would still be a second piece long enough for her if she wanted a long veil.

But I just don’t know, it’s a little heartbreaking to think about cutting it. But it’s more heartbreaking to think about not wearing it.

Opinions anyone?

July 7, 2010 - 6:09 pm p:m - cut that sh*t, yo :)

July 7, 2010 - 8:09 pm jess - dont lsiten to peter... we will find a way to make it work! with our two minds... plus the other ladies im sure we can think up something to save that beautiful veil! and make all happy!

July 8, 2010 - 6:22 am donna - why dont you wear it, intact, for the ceremony... and slip it off for the reception! that way you've paid your respect to el velo :P and left it ready for lindsay (who may not have a train on her dress)

July 8, 2010 - 10:40 am Christal - As heartbreaking as it is.. I say cut it. More veil to go around right? It would be a sham to cover the back of your dress and what's better than sharing part of it with sister. Instead of one you'd have 2 :) and they can both continue to be passed down through generations!

July 10, 2010 - 5:03 pm d:m - Think long and hard before you cut it! :)

July 10, 2010 - 5:06 pm p:m - You already have a train on your dress. The back, is the best part of the dress! Ppl wanna see that! Can't cover it up. The sole fact alone that you are going to wear it is badass enough. Customize it to suit you on your wedding day. Cut it.

July 12, 2010 - 7:50 pm jany - Thanks for all the advice guys! I talked with my mother and sister and we all agreed that it should be cut! Eeeep! The length is about twice my height, so it really would not make sense to keep it at that. Christal I think you made a great point about having two veils that share a history between me and my sister and we can both continue to pass them down. xoxo

July 13, 2010 - 5:32 am Endo - DO NOT CUT the long veil--- long veils are so elegant and beautiful in pictures and when walking down the isle. Princess Diana had a huge veil. My veil had 2 parts the long cathedral veil and blusher they were attached to the hairclip with Velcro, when I was done with the long part I velcroed it off. Don't go short -- you don't want to look like your having your first communion.
